Description | Purified anti-SUZ12. The SUZ12 protein is a key component of the Polycomb Repressive Complex 2 (PRC2), a major player in gene silencing through histone modification. SUZ12 is essential for the PRC2 complex's ability to methylate histone H3 at lysine 27 (H3K27me3). This methylation marks chromatin for repression, leading to transcriptional silencing of target genes. By contributing to the formation of H3K27me3 marks, SUZ12 helps maintain the repression of genes involved in various cellular processes including development, differentiation, and cell cycle regulation. SUZ12 and the PRC2 complex are crucial for normal embryonic development. They regulate the expression of genes necessary for maintaining pluripotency in embryonic stem cells and for proper lineage commitment during development. Abnormal SUZ12 expression or function are linked to various cancers. SUZ12, as part of PRC2, can act as an oncogene or tumor suppressor, depending on the context. Its deregulation can lead to inappropriate gene silencing or activation, contributing to tumorigenesis. |
