Description | Antibodies bind to cells that have estrogen-alpha (ER) receptors. Human estrogen receptors are responsible for the regulation of growth and differentiation of breast cells and have alpha and beta forms. In normal tissues, ERs are present in the epithelial cells of the mammary glands, uterine epithelium and myometrium, endometrium in the luteal phase. In breast cancer, most cells expressing progesterone receptors (PR) also express estrogen receptors, and only 5% of PR positive cells do not contain ER. Estrogen receptors are also expressed in some smooth muscle tumors, malignant melanomas, meningiomas, sclerosing hemangiomas, thyroid tumors, cervical cancer and ovarian cancer. |
