Description | Cytokeratin 5/6/8/17/19 Antibody, anti-human, PE, REAfinity™. Clone REA1141 recognizes cytokeratin 5, 6, 8, 17, 19. Cytokeratins, which are found in almost all epithelial cells, are polypeptides with keratin-containing intermediate filaments, which ensure form stability and cohesiveness. Keratins play a critical role in mechanical stability and integrity of epithelial cells and tissues, have regulatory functions and are involved in intracellular signaling pathways. Cytokeratin 6 is located in proliferating squamous epithelium, whereas Cytokeratin 5 is found in the basal, the intermediate and the superficial cell layers of stratified and transitional epithelia, complex epithelia, and in mesothelial cells and mesothelioma, but not in simple epithelia and in non-epithelial cells. Cytokeratin 8, an intermediate filament protein, which is found in epithelial and carcinoma cells. In adult tissues Cytokeratin 8 is expressed as a heterodimer with Cytokeratin 18. Keratin 17, a type I cytokeratin, is located in nail beds, hair follicles, sebaceous glands, and other epidermal appendages. The type I cytokeratin 19 is found in the periderm, the transiently superficial layer that envelops the developing epidermis. | Additional information: Clone REA1141 displays negligible binding to Fc receptors. |
