Description | The mouse monoclonal antibody B-K9 recognizes human CD106. CD106 is a 110kDa type 1 transmembrane sialoglycoprotein, which is also known as vascular cell adhesion molecule 1 (VCAM-1). The CD106 protein is primarily expressed on activated vascular endothelium but has also been detected on dendritic cell types, macrophages and non-vascular cells in certain tissues. Expression of CD106 is induced by inflammatory stimuli and cytokines. CD106 binds to the integrins CD49d/CD29 (also known as VLA4) and alpha4beta7 and is important in leucocyte-endothelial cell adhesion and signal transduction. The CD106 protein is thought to play a key role in the migration of leucocyte from the blood into tissues, particularly at sites of inflammation. Studies su |
